Why ZombieLicence

Built to keep Microsoft 365 tenants lean

Everything you need to find, approve and remove licences nobody is using, across every tenant you look after.

365 licence cleanup

Finds licensed accounts with no sign-in past your threshold, including leavers and forgotten temp accounts.

Reduce costs

Every removed licence comes off your next Microsoft bill, or frees a seat for your next starter.

Optimise your tenant

A clear, current view of who holds which licence, with a full history of what was removed and when.

Simple. Automated.

Set your threshold and exclusions once. Scans and reports run every week without you.

How it works

Four steps to a lean tenant

  1. 1

    Connect your tenant

A Microsoft admin grants consent to read users and sign-in data and to change licence assignments. Nothing else.

  2. 2

    Weekly scan

ZombieLicence checks the last sign-in for every licensed user and flags anyone past your threshold.

  3. 3

    Approve and clear

Review the list by email or in the dashboard. Approve one, some or all, and the licences are removed.

  4. 4

    Stay lean

New zombies show up in next week's report, so unused licences never pile up again.

FAQ

Questions before you connect

Mascot scratching his head, with a glowing question mark
How does it know who's inactive?

It reads the last sign-in date Microsoft Entra ID records for each user, covering interactive and background sign-ins. This data needs Entra ID P1 or higher in the tenant.

Can I undo a removal?

Yes. Assign the licence back and access returns. Mailbox and OneDrive retention after a licence is removed follows your tenant's settings, so check those before approving a large batch.

What permissions does it need?

Permission to read users and sign-in data, and to change licence assignments. It never reads mailboxes, files or Teams messages.

What about shared mailboxes and service accounts?

Add them to your exclusion list and they never appear in a report. Break-glass admin accounts should always be excluded.

Will it remove anything on its own?

No. Every removal needs an approval from an admin.

How is the price worked out?

40p a month for each user holding a paid licence, counted from each tenant's latest scan, and never more than £99 a month for any one tenant. Unlicensed accounts, guests and shared mailboxes are free. MSPs get one invoice with each tenant listed.
